for his flashy moves and captivating tricks.
Alex was one of LA's very first salsa instructors that began
teaching to the masses. Countless salsa professionals and instructors
took a class or began their salsa training by him (whether they
admit it or not!). I had the chance to meet him at the 2004
West Coast salsa congress and I've never seen anyone with his

A little salsa history...
Enter the world famous Vasquez Brothers -
These three brothers came from Guadalajara, Mexico to Los Angeles,
Ca. Little did they know that they would one day take over the
entire salsa scene there and reinvent it with their own unique
style. These three have been dancing for many years and they
molded the LA style from the very beginning. Our instructor,
"Tun Tun" Edgar Mendez, use to roll
with these characters and dominate the LA salsa clubs back in
the days. Now, just about all of them are teaching/instructing
in parts of Europe. If you ever get to see them dance in person,
you're seeing a little bit of salsa history.
Francisco
Vasquez - This guy will go down in history as the man
credited for inventing "LA style" salsa. When you
watch him dance, you'll see why. He's the one that taught Salsa
Memphis' instructor, Edgar Mendez, how to dance
and is proud owner of the Los
Rumberos Dance Co., one of the first companies in L.A. Known
for his lightning fast footwork, gansta style, and unmatched
spins, Francisco is one of the most recognizable faces in the
salsa world. He has been teaching for many years and his unique
style has influenced numerous dancers.
Francisco
Vasquez - This is one of my favorite clips of Francisco.
He has this uncanny ability to play with the beats of the music
ad lib. He's so dominant on the dance floor, he makes everyone
around him look like beginners, footage by Harry
Lee.
Francisco
Vasquez - Here's another clip of Francisco social dancing
with a partner at the famous Sportsman Lodge salsa nightclub
in Los Angeles, footage by Harry
Lee.
Performance
by Francisco Vasquez and Monica Gonsalez - Here is Francisco
with his longtime partner, Monica, performing at a salsa congress.
Francisco
Vasquez and Monica Gonsalez - Here is Francisco and Monica
showing them how its done, LA style!
Francisco
spins - Francisco is known as the master of multiple spins
when it comes to a men. I have never seen anyone top him when
it comes to the number of times you can spin in one place. Here,
some dude actually tries to challenge him.. !!
Luis
Vasquez - The middle child and one of the famous Vasquez
brothers. Luis began LA's first dance company: Salsa Brava.
They broke up a few years back and he formed a new company with
a new partner, Melissa Fernandez. You can visit them on their
website: Mas Salsa Brava.
Johnny
Vasquez - The youngest and perhaps most talented member
of the famous Vasquez brothers. In the beginning, Johnny had
no interest in salsa despite the urges from his older brothers.
One day, he gave it a try and found out that he had abilities
far greater than those of normal salseros! He later teamed up
with older brother, Francisco to form Los Rumberos. I had the
pleasure of watching Johnny and Olivia Dasso perform at the
1st West Coast Salsa Congress back in 1999. I swear I'd never
seen anyone move that quick.

Jesus Morales -
This is one of my favorite dancers to watch socially. He's so
entertaining! Jesus Morales is one of the most
recognizable salseros in the LA scene. His style is unique because
unlike everyone else who emulates a pachuco or something, this
guy's a bullfighter!! He has a website with a few videoclips
called Smoothdancer.Com. Here

If you watch this one, make sure you're not at work or something.
