Q. What is a Performance Team?
A. Performance teams are open everyone and
these classes give salsa students
·- Advanced training in spins, style, technique, and
timing
·- Professional choreography
·- A chance to perform in front of large audiences
·- Opportunity to gain experience and have fun without
any obligations
Q. How does this benefit me?
A. The training you will receive from these
classes gives you the extra knowledge to take your salsa to
a higher level. Instead of just learning a few steps and a
new combination each week, you will learn how to put it all
together.
Choreography will teach you how to place styling into your
salsa, how to really feel the music, recognize the beat, how
to properly lead/follow, and above all: how to retain it all
this knowledge without forgetting each week! If you are serious
about learning to dance and you want to become more involved
with the Memphis salsa community, then these are the classes
for you!
Q.How is that different from a dance company?
A.You will receive the same training that
helped the members of the Salsa Memphis Dance Company stand
out amongst other salsa dancers but without any obligations
to practice, perform, etc.
Q. When and where do we perform?
A. Once the performance team masters the
choreography, they will have opportunity to perform in Memphis
all around town at local events, clubs, fundraisers, festivals,
and on television! Trust me, I'll make you famous!
Q. I have stage fright!! Do I have to perform?
A. No. You may take the performance classes just for the advance
training. There is no obligation to perform in front of large
audiences screaming your name, but I think you will be missing
out on all the fun!
Q. Should I stop taking weekly classes?
A. No. Weekly salsa classes teach you new
combinations, styling, footwork, tricks, and technique each
week. I encourage you to learn as much as you can. Members
of the performance teams get a 50% discount on all classes
and a discount on private lessons.
Q. How do I sign up?
A. Contact Edgar Mendez at 901-484-6999.
Q. How do I know what level I am?
A. Be honest with yourself how you dance
with others. Can you lead or follow your partner effectively?
Do you feel the music? Do you understand the beat? Do you
blank out when the music starts? Remember! Just because you
have been taking a few salsa classes does not mean you are
an advanced dancer. Its not the amount of classes taken that
counts, its how well you have learned.
